Home Video-EEG Monitoring

Clinicans can refer for HVEEG using the link https://www.epilepsynetwork.com.au/referrers/

For patients, you can read about the test below

What it’s used for?

Home Video-EEG is helpful when the nature of events needs clarification (epileptic vs non-epileptic), when routine EEG is inconclusive, or when seizure burden and epileptiform activity need assessment over multiple nights.

How it works?

Initial appointment (about 1–1.5 hours)

A technician applies EEG electrodes using medical adhesives, fits the portable recorder and video system, checks signal quality, and provides instructions for home use.

Home monitoring (2–4 nights)

The system is worn continuously, including overnight. A wide-angle video unit records events and can be repositioned within the home as needed.

Reliable 4G coverage is recommended so signal quality can be checked. If needed, temporary access to home Wi-Fi may be requested to ensure stable connectivity.

Patients are generally expected to remain at home for the monitoring period to maintain continuous, high-quality recording.

Disconnection (about 45 minutes)

You return to the clinic for equipment removal.

Reporting

An experienced neuroscientist and an epilepsy specialist review the study, and a detailed report is provided to the referring doctor.
